In Romans 13:11–14, Paul uses the picture of night turning into day to describe the Christian life. “Night” represents the present age marked by sin, darkness, and rebellion against God, while “day” points forward to the return of Christ and the full completion of our salvation. Paul reminds believers that this future is drawing nearer, so they should live now in a way that fits the coming day. Christians are not supposed to live as though darkness will last forever. Because Christ is coming, Paul calls them to “wake up,” put away the works of darkness, and live openly and faithfully before God.
