Helpful Background Information: 

• In yesterday’s devotional, it was mentioned that there are three main accounts of Hezekiah’s life in Scripture. We looked at the first on Monday—2 Kings 18-20. We looked at the second yesterday—Isaiah 36-39. Today we’ll look at the third, which is found in 2 Chronicles. 

• 2 Chronicles focuses a lot on the theological reasons for the national blessings and curses. Through that lens, Hezekiah is viewed as a righteous reformer—a second David of sorts—who restores the Levitical priesthood, purifies the Temple, and hosts a huge national Passover. The central message is that obedience and spiritual revival are the true signs of national security.

• Many of the negative details of Hezekiah’s life are skipped over in 2 Chronicles. Instead, it builds on the description of his military defenses, his engineering projects, and his personal humility.

• 2 Chronicles emphasizes Hezekiah's commitment to spiritual renewal rather than simply political success. What does this suggest about God's priorities for His people?

• Hezekiah recognized that the nation's greatest need was not stronger defenses but renewed worship—that was his vision for success. How does that challenge the way you define security and success in your own life?

• Hezekiah's reforms called Israel back to faithful worship. What does it look like for believers to continually call each other back to Christ today?
