Matthew 1:21
Read Matthew 1:21; Mark 2:17; Luke 19:10
Helpful Background Information:
These three verses give us a simple summary of why Jesus came into the world. In Matthew, the angel tells Joseph that Jesus’s very name means “the Lord saves,” because He will save His people from their sins. In Mark, Jesus describes Himself as a physician who came for the sick, not the healthy. And in Luke, Jesus declares His mission clearly: “to seek and to save the lost.” Christmas is God searching for people who could never save themselves.
