Day 17: Genesis 2:1-3

Read Genesis 2:1-3

Helpful Background Information:

  • Genesis 2:1–3 takes place at the end of the creation story. After six days of creating the universe God finishes His work and rests on the seventh day. This rest isn’t because God was tired; rather, it was to set an example. God "blessed" the seventh day and "made it holy," meaning that he set it apart as a day unique from the others. This was the beginning of what would later become the Sabbath: a day of rest rooted in God’s own example in creation.

Reflection Questions:

  • Why do you think God chose to rest after creating everything, even though He didn’t need to?

  • How does Genesis 2:1–3 help you see the Sabbath as a gift instead of just a rule?

  • Genesis says God “blessed” and “made holy” the seventh day. How might your life change if you treated one day a week as truly special and set apart for God?
