Micah 7:18-20

Read Micah 7:18-20 

Helpful Background Information:

• The book of Micah was written as a warning to God’s people by the prophet Micah. This message to God’s people was likely written between 730-690 BC, roughly 140 years before Micah’s prophecy of exile occurred. It was written to the peoples of both the northern and southern kingdoms, warning them of the judgement that was to come and offering a pardon for all who would repent.

• The remnant referred to in verse 18 are the Israelite people who are repentant and who put their hope in God to redeem them. As God is faithful to the remnant who are still faithful, despite the rebellious nature of that generation, it is important to remember that God has always been faithful to show mercy and grace to those who follow Him. 

• In verse 20, when talking about how God will show His loyalty to Jacob and His faithful love to Abraham, Micah is referring to the promises that God made to them regarding their descendants being as numerous as the stars in the sky.

• Take time to meditate on verse 18. What does it mean that God delights to show mercy? 

• As it is true that God delights in being faithful to His people, how can you remain faithful to Him as Lord of your life? Read Romans 6:1-2 as well.

• How has or can your life change with the truth found in verse 19? Take time to praise God for what He has forgiven in your own life.
