John 20:30-31

Read John 20:30-31

Helpful Background Information:

  • This passage of scripture appears at the end of John’s gospel. In this, John makes a statement about why he wrote his gospel.

  • Since the purpose of the gospel of John is that the reader would believe that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God, John 5 and 7 come to life. John records how Jesus is God so that the readers, us, would believe in His name.

Reflection Questions:

  • Review John 5:1-15 and John 7:10-24. How does Jesus display how He is the Messiah, the Son of God, in these passages?

  • In John, we see how Jesus displays who He is by healing the broken. In John 20:31, we are reminded that, through belief, we have life in Jesus’ name. In what ways has God given you life in Jesus? Take a moment to pray and write down some of these ways that Jesus has healed you. Praise God for them!

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you of ways that you are still tolerating your sin. Take a few moments to listen to God’s response. Take time to repent, turning away from your sin, and asking that Jesus would change you to look more like Himself.
