Isaiah 43:1-2
Read Isaiah 43:1-2
From a bird's eye view, the book of Isaiah seems to have a strong emphasis on the Lord’s judgement on His people in chapters 1-39. But in chapter 40, there seems to be a shift, and the writing becomes more peaceful and poetic.
The theme of trusting the Lord, regardless of the circumstances, is also a theme in this text. This is demonstrated clearly through the two kings that Isaiah the prophet advised: Ahaz and Hezekiah. Ahaz did not trust the Lord, nor Isaiah’s advice, and suffered the consequences as a result. King Hezekiah, on the other hand, trusted the Lord and followed Him.
The theme of Trust: this theme in Isaiah’s writings seems to be two-fold:
1. To trust EVEN IF He does not deliver us from difficult circumstances, which in the case of the readers, was being exiled and enslaved by a powerful nation
2. To trust the Lord and ask that He would bring deliverance, again, from their enslavement by a foreign nation.
Reflection Questions:
What connections do you see between these verses and Daniel 3?
After reading these verses, what do you learn about how God views His people? How does that shape the way you think about your identity?
Does God promise to keep His people from hardship? What does He promise instead?
How does it encourage you to read the words and to see God say “I will be with you”, when we go through hard things?
