Day 1: Acts 17:1-4
Read Acts 17:1-4
Helpful Background Information:
In Acts 17:1–4, we see Paul and his team traveling from city to city, sharing the gospel and planting new churches. Paul went where people hadn’t heard about Jesus, preached the gospel, and often left behind a new group of believers to set up a church. In Thessalonica, Paul starts by going to the synagogue, where Jews and God-fearing Gentiles gathered. He explains from the Old Testament that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead, and then he shows that Jesus fits that description. Some people are persuaded and believe. This moment is the beginning of the church in Thessalonica. The new believers became imitators of Paul and an example to others.
Reflection Questions:
Why do you think Paul made it a priority to travel with a team instead of going alone?
Who are some companions or teammates in your life that you could serve with in ministry or mission?
In Acts 17:2, Paul “reasoned with them from the Scriptures.” How confident are you in explaining the gospel from Scripture? What could help you grow in that?
Have you ever considered being part of a church planting team—either by going, giving, or praying? Why or why not?
