Mark 10:32-52
Read Mark 10:32-52
Helpful Background Information:
In Mark 10:32–34, Jesus is traveling towards Jerusalem with his disciples, fully aware of what awaits him there. For the third time in Mark's gospel, Jesus clearly explains that he will be betrayed, condemned, mocked, beaten, and killed before rising again. Nevertheless Jesus is not dragged toward his suffering; he walks ahead of them, he leads the way to that end.
Immediately after this prediction, James and John reveal how deeply they still misunderstand Jesus's mission. well Jesus is talking about his suffering, they ask for positions of honor and Power. Jesus reminds them of his redefinition of greatness and reminds them that he himself, the son of man, did not come to be served but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many. Unlike the disciples, Bartimaeus sees clearly who Jesus is. He cries out for mercy, offering nothing but his faith. When Jesus heals him, Bartimaeus follows Jesus on the road towards Jerusalem.
