Helpful Background Information: 

• Acts 2 takes place during Pentecost, shortly after Jesus ascended into heaven. On that day, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples, and Peter preached the gospel to a large crowd in Jerusalem. About three thousand people responded with repentance and faith, were baptized, and became part of the church. Acts 2:42–47 describes how these new believers began living together as a community shaped by their shared commitment to Jesus. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. As they lived out the gospel together, the Lord continued adding new believers to their community.

• Acts 2:42 says the believers “devoted themselves” to several practices. What does devotion look like in contrast to occasional participation?

• What is the difference between biblical fellowship and simply spending time around other people?

• Verses 44–45 describe believers willingly using their possessions to meet one another’s needs. What does their generosity reveal about how the gospel had changed them?
